Granted, I don't know much about PHP, but might try adding a hopefully small snippet that would ask a simple question before allowing a post on the forum.  A question might be similar to the Ubuntu forums in the respect that it asks... "What is the first letter of the English alphabet?" (Answer is A) or "What is 1 + 1?" (Answer is 2).

It may reduce the Viagra advertisements or whatever.

Yes. Good suggestion. But don't spammers have bots, that can overcome these barriers? I anyway wanted to ask on the SMF forums about a solution. I just don't understand, why these spammers actually post here. They should know, that these posts get deleted within one day or even minutes.

I have installed a plugin, that asks users to type in a capcha on registration. Hopefully this will block at least some of the bots.
